Dr. Babs Waldman Steps Down from Volunteer Medical Director Position

After 25 years of dedicated service, Dr. Babs Waldman has stepped down from her Volunteer Medical Director position at CommunityHealth. Despite the end of her tenure in this role, Dr. Waldman continues to see patients weekly as a volunteer provider in our clinic.

 

Since joining CommunityHealth in 2000, she has worked endlessly to influence clinical care, culture, and community at this clinic. Dr. Waldman has led with intellect, compassion, and an unwavering commitment to health care for all. It is almost impossible to imagine CommunityHealth without Dr. Waldman. 

 

Dr. Waldman has held numerous leadership roles across a variety of organizations, including Equal Hope and Art for Health, and previously served at the Illinois Attorney General’s Office, where she took on health care fraud investigations. As a dedicated medical professional at CommunityHealth, she has been recognized with multiple awards, including the CommunityHealth Serafino Award and the Arnold L. Widen Volunteer Legacy Award. Outside of local impact, Dr. Waldman has contributed to international health care initiatives through her work with Rush Global Health & Community Empowerment in Haiti and the Dominican Republic.

 

Dr. Waldman’s dedication to health care has shaped what our clinic is today – resilient, strong, and reliable. Her wisdom, strength, and partnership has helped guide CommunityHealth through many chapters. Serving at CommunityHealth during a global pandemic and through a migrant crisis, she has established herself as a steady presence in the clinic, no matter what challenges the community is facing. 

 

She has been an innovator at CommunityHealth, spearheading efforts to provide greater access to breast cancer screenings for uninsured women. CommunityHealth has been able to increase its capacity for clinical breast exams and mammogram referrals free of charge, facilitating earlier detection and access to treatment when cancer is found. Dr. Waldman impacts health from the policy level to the ground level, and she effectively utilizes her skills and time to serve those who need health care the most. 

 

One patient said, “I can enjoy my life with my grandchildren, and I have no doubt that is because of the care I receive through CommunityHealth. Without the services of CommunityHealth, I cannot be sure I would be here today. I would like to give a special thanks to Dr. Babs Waldman for her dedication and care.”

 

Dr. Waldman is also a mentor to many who volunteer at CommunityHealth. Through her leadership and example, countless aspiring medical professionals learn from Dr. Waldman how they, too, can serve the uninsured, providing receive comprehensive, confident medical care with dignity and respect. Her tireless dedication to providing access to high quality health care for underserved adults has impacted both patients and other medical providers in Chicago and beyond.
